Parents and Guardians,
Whether your child is new to the high school or you’re just wondering how we’re doing some things this year in light of the pandemic, among other things, here is some information that you might find helpful:
As you probably know, our current reopening plan calls for universal masking while indoors for all staff, students, and visitors. We will always have masks available at the student entrance for students who might have forgotten theirs and all students will receive a cloth mask on the first day of school. Masking is just one tool in our approach to keeping students safe and in school, but it’s an important one. Mask breaks will be scheduled, especially in the hotter weather.
COVID vaccination clinics
Ours were very well attended last year and many of you have been asking about them – we are in the process of scheduling additional clinics. Per current CDC guidelines, and given the layers of precautions we are taking, vaccinated students will NOT have to quarantine after an exposure while those who are unvaccinated will. All students must also be up to date on all “childhood” vaccinations as well (in order to attend school), with limited exemptions. Please contact Nurse Haskins if you have any questions- firstname.lastname@example.org
Please monitor your children and household members every day for symptoms and we ask that if your child is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, please keep them home and contact our nurse, Heather Haskins, RN). While attendance and academic achievement go hand in hand, we would rather be safe than sorry and we will always work with students to get caught up following absences.
Students who attend UTC for half of their school day WILL be bussed there on the first day of school and at the normal time. Driving permission forms will be distributed on that day.
All students will continue entering the building through the Peakes Auditorium entrance. For new parents, that’s the third entrance once you enter the inner driveway from Hobart St. (the road that goes past the school). Parents are welcome to drop off students in the inner driveway but you take the risk of getting stuck behind buses discharging students- most find it easier to drop them off on Hobart St. and have them walk over. Students can be dropped off as early as 7 AM and the school day begins promptly at 8 AM. Please plan to have your child here by 8 AM since late arrivals are disruptive to teachers making the most of that first period class- and they do!
Classes dismiss at 2 PM. Buses depart no later than 2:10 PM. If picking up your children, please avoid the inner driveway from 1:30 PM – 2 PM. Buses (all 20+ of them) park in a double line and parents who get stuck in that line report only making that mistake once. You’ll be there until 2:10 and it’s a tight squeeze. Students are welcome to stay after school as long as they have a reason for doing so (a sport, club meeting, extra help with a teacher, meetings, etc.).
Opening day packets
Who doesn’t love the annual parent chore of the opening day packets?! Please help us by filling everything out and having your child return it ASAP.
Our doors will be open on Thursday Sept. 9 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. We’re trying to limit guests that night to active BHS students and their parents/ guardians but we’d love to have your child introduce you to their teachers and show you around. There will be no bell schedule so visit with staff on your own timeline.
If ever your address or phone number changes, please let us know ASAP. We only go by what you provide in those opening packets but know that things can change. If you have a new number or want to verify we have the correct one, please email Heather Hopkins in the main office at email@example.com.
Please look for regular updates on the Bangor app as well as on our BHS Facebook page.
The faculty and staff are looking forward to a great year with everyone back for in-person learning!
