Dear 8th Grade Parent/Guardian:
We look forward to welcoming you and your student into the Bangor High School community next year! We are working to ensure a smooth transition to high school and would like to get you updated on the
course selection process.
We are requesting recommendations from your student’s teachers for English, math, science, and social studies courses. Our high school departments are working closely with middle school teachers to communicate the expectations of each level of class so we can ensure appropriate placements. If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s placement, feel free to contact the high school after you receive a schedule in the spring.
Students will get to select their choice for physical education and up to two electives from a list provided. If students select one elective, they’ll be assigned to a study hall. We encourage students to challenge themselves academically, but also to find a balance, allowing them to pursue extracurricular interests as well.
They have four years to earn 22 credits in the following subjects to meet graduation requirements:
English 4 credits
Social Studies 2 credits
Math 3.5 credits
Science 3 credits
Health/PE 1.5 credits
Visual/Performing Art 1 credit
World Language (recommended) 2 credits
Electives 5 credits
We invite you to join us for an 8th Grade Parent Night: An introduction to High School scheduled for March 1 at 6:00 PM on YouTube Live. Register for this event at https://forms.gle/p7fuSKksioDdR8UM9
