Bangor High School students made their mark at the recent Maine State Science Fair, showcasing their exceptional scientific talent and earning prestigious awards and scholarships. The event, held remotely, Saturday, March 23, due to the winter storm, brought together talented young minds from across the state to compete in various categories, and Bangor High School emerged as a powerhouse with a Grand Award, category recognitions, and multiple scholarships.
Brandon Nguyen and Brayon Nguyen, received the coveted Grand Award for their project titled "Hydroelectric Hydroponics: Plant Growth Analysis and Energy Conservation in Nutrient Film Technique Hydroponics." Their innovative research focused on analyzing plant growth and energy conservation in hydroelectric hydroponics. Brandon and Brayon will represent Maine at the Regeneron International Science Fair in Los Angeles, California later this year.
In addition to the Grand Award, Bangor High School students excelled in various categories, securing top honors. Notably, Chase Smith's project on "Behavioral & Social Sciences - Psychology & Sociology" earned her the first-place recognition, further highlighting Bangor High School's commitment to interdisciplinary excellence.
The exceptional achievements of these talented students have not gone unnoticed, as several prestigious institutions have awarded scholarships to recognize their academic prowess and potential. The University of Maine, extended generous scholarships to Alexander Busko, Brayon Nguyen, and Christopher Nichols, renewable for up to four years. This remarkable opportunity includes full-tuition scholarships, mentorship programs, annual research budgets, and other valuable resources to support their educational journey.
The success of Bangor High School students extends beyond the academic realm, with numerous students receiving category awards and special recognitions. From Animal Sciences to Environmental Science, these young scientists showcased their expertise and dedication to making innovative contributions across diverse scientific disciplines.
