Suicide is the second largest cause of death among people between the ages of 10 and 24. In 2020, Congress designated the 988 dialing code to be operated through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides access to trained crisis counselors offering support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across the United States. The lifeline is composed of a national network of over 200 local crisis centers, combining custom local care and resources with national standards and best practices. https://988lifeline.org/ also offers helpful information on prevention and responses.
The Bangor School Department shares this commitment to mental health access. Students and families have access to school counselors, social workers, therapists, and school psychologists. Through community partnerships with PCHC and funding through the City of Bangor, we are expanding our school based health clinics to provide resources to our students and their families.

During cold and flu season, remember to stay home if you're sick. Return only after symptom improvement and being fever-free for 24 hours without medicine. Practice good respiratory etiquette and wash your hands frequently!

The JROTC Senior class at Bangor High School embarked on an exciting canoe trip down the Penobscot River on Thursday, August 15th. Eight cadets participated in the 10-mile journey, putting in at Passadumkeag and taking out in Greenbush.
The weather cooperated beautifully, and the smallmouth bass were biting. The cadets had a wonderful time experiencing Maine's natural splendor firsthand, thanks to the team at Cold Shore Guide Service (www.coldshoreguideservice.com).
Cold Shore Guide Service provided the canoes, life jackets, paddles, and lunch for the trip. They also gave the group a safety briefing before they set out, ensuring the cadets were well-prepared for their adventure on the river.
The seniors are grateful to Cold Shore Guide Service for facilitating this fantastic outdoor experience and allowing them to immerse themselves in Maine's beautiful natural classroom.
